Landing Your Dream Job-Killer Resume Tips by Djfunkyslick

It seems to me that we all hope for our dream job. That requires a stellar resume. Creating the perfect resume is a daunting task. We all seem to know what we do for a living but presenting it in a professional manner seems to escape us. I have had my fair share of writing and re-writing resumes and cover letters. Besides the fact that every professional will tell you something different about what should and should not be in your resume. One person will tell you that your resume should be only one page. Another will say two pages is okay. You also will be told to list your responsibilities, yet someone else will tell you to just list your key accomplishments. It can all be a bit confusing to say the least. I have researched the data and I have come up with some proven techniques that will guarantee your resume does not end up on the discard pile. The next time you sit down to type out a new resume, remember these tips.

The first thing you need to realize is that your resume is your first impression. You wouldn't go on a first date with a stained shirt and dirty pants, right? So you want to ensure that your resume is appealing to the eye. I have found that the most eye catching resumes are those that are formatted in the "functional" resume style. It is crisp clean and low maintenance.

Secondly, you want to keep your resume to one page. Prospective employers will have 100's of resumes to sift through and do not have all day to read through pages and pages. More often than not if a resume is two pages, regardless of the information in it, the resume ends up being discarded. Do your best to keep it simple.

Thirdly, address your key accomplishments. This is your time to brag and sell yourself. Do not make up ridiculous sounding words for your position. Intelligent employers are aware of this tactic and it just looks silly. Make sure that your key accomplishments highlight the best of you. For example, how much did you increase sales? Or how much did you decrease loss?

Lastly, be sure to use spell check. When I am looking through resumes, nothing gets one thrown in the discard pile quicker than misspelled words. In this day and age of spell check and online help with grammar, there is zero reason for words to be incorrectly spelled. Always have someone proof read it is my motto. These are just a few quick tips to ensure you have a visually appealing resume that will get you an interview with no problem.
